Dexterit-E 3.11.1

November 2025

In addition to various bug fixes and enhancements (see the tables below), Dexterit-E 3.11.1 is the first version of Dexterit-E to support the AV Controller. The AV Controller is a new embedded hardware component that will be shipped with Kinarm Labs starting in late 2025. The AV Controller communicates with the Kinarm Lab computers and is responsible for audio and video control of the Subject Display. It allows for even greater predictability and robustness in the generation of audio and visual stimuli presented to a Subject than was previously possible.

Kinarm Standard Tests

Historically, any paused trials in the Ball-on-Bar task have been excluded from analysis. However, since Dexterit-E 3.9.0 the pause type for BOB has been ‘Pause at Next Trial’; which means that the trial with the pause event would be completed and could be used in analysis. Now the analysis will check the pause type and if it is ‘Pause at Next Trial’ then the trial with the pause will be used in the analysis. If the data was collected with a version of Dexterit-E preceding 3.9.0, then the pause type would be ‘Repeat trial now’ (i.e., the trial would not be completed) and the trial with the pause event will still be excluded from analysis.
Please see the release notes for more details.

Dexterit-E Explorer 3.11.1

November 2025
Dexterit-E Explorer 3.11.1 is released simultaneously with Dexterit-E 3.11.1 and ensures the KST analyses are identical to those of the same release number of Dexterit-E. Of note is a change that affects the Ball-on-Bar KST discussed above.  Dexterit-E Explorer 3.11.1 also has a small number of enhancements and bug fixes.  Please see the release notes for more details.

3.11 Release

August 2025
After 1.5 years of hard work, the design and development teams at Kinarm are pleased to simultaneously release:
  • Dexterit-E™ 3.11.0; and
  • Dexterit-E Explorer™  3.11.0
You can now watch a video highlighting their changes:
Some of the more noteworthy changes in Dexterit-E & Explorer 3.11.0 include:

Kinarm Standard Tests

New Test: Fast Feedback Interception

The Fast Feedback Interception (FFI) test assesses the ability of a subject to use sensory information to rapidly guide motor actions.  There is a normative model for FFI enabling comparison to age, sex and hand matched controls. More information on this new test can be found in the 3.11.0 version of the Kinarm Standard Tests Summary document.  Learn why and how FFI was created from its creators.

There have been a number of improvements to the Normative models and analysis for previously released Kinarm Standard Tests (KST). These changes are implemented in both Dexterit-E and Dexterit-E Explorer.  The most prominent of these (which may necessitate re-analyzing of KST results) are:

  • Normative models for Arm Posture Perturbation (APP) and Arm Movement Matching (AMM) tests now include data from the Kinarm Exoskeleton (PN 13568, 14974) in addition to the pre-existing data from the Kinarm Classic (PN 10755).
  • The Normative models for all KST have been updated using an increased number of ‘normal’ subjects. The impact to Z-scores for subjects in the “normal” range was < 10% for most KST. The exceptions were PAL and RVGR, where changes up to 25% were observed for some parameters (due to the significant increase in normative database size for these two KST).
  • Corrected an error in the de-correlation algorithm for calculating M-distance (which is used to calculate M-Score). This fix had a negligible impact on M-Scores < 2 (i.e. M-scores in the “normal” range), and an impact of up to 20% for extreme M-scores up to 10 for APP, ES, OH, RVGR and VGR. For other KST the impact was negligible for M-scores up to 10.
  • Corrected algorithm to convert low-frequency, highly discrete parameters to Zeta-scores. The biggest impact of this change is to the Task Scores and M-scores of highly impaired subjects. The impact to Task Score and M-Score is negligible for scores < 1. For scores > 2, the new Task Score and M-scores are typically less than previous, with progressively larger impacts at larger scores (e.g. 25-40% decrease at scores of ~10 for RVGR and VGR).
  • See the Kinarm Standard Tests Summary for more details, specifically Chapter 6 KST – Version History.

Custom Task Development

  • To simplify accessing robot arm data during custom task development, a new block has been added to the KINARM_general Simulink library in the TDK. The new block is called RobotArmData. See block help for information on how to use the block.
  • Ability to control visual stimuli on a frame-by-frame basis has been added. This feature is accessed through a new ‘pre_draw_ack’ signal and some custom code, as described in the Creating Task Programs guide.

Deprecation Notices

Dexterit-E Computer and Windows® OS: Dexterit-E 3.11 does not support Windows 7.
Robot Computer: Dexterit-E 3.11 does not support Robot Computer part number 11103. These Robot computers were last shipped in 2015. If you are unsure of your Robot Computer’s part number, please contact Kinarm Support (support@kinarm.com).

All installers are available for download once logged into the Support website Software Downloads page. Please see the release notes for a complete list of changes and fixes.

Instructions for upgrading from 3.10 to 3.11:
